About

Rose Muhando has not led an easy life. Although she has gained a lot of fame and money through her music, family crises and recurring illnesses have threatened to rob her life. Nonetheless, her passion for Gospel music and serving God is evident in how she performs. Her songs have stood the test of time and continue to be listened to widely across Africa.

Personal Life

Rose Muhando was born in January 1976 in Dumila, Tanzania. She is a gospel singer, songwriter and choreographer. Here’s Rose Muhando’s story:

Rose was born into a Muslim family and spent her early childhood being raised in the Islamic faith. Rose’s father was a sheikh, and she was brought up in a very strict Muslim family.

When Rose was a child, she was plagued by illness for three years. This disease affected her skin, making it dry and flaky. She also had a severe wound on her head that would never heal and often oozed with pus.

After consulting several doctors in vain, Rose Muhando’s parents finally gave up. They took her home, dejected, to wait for the inevitable. At the time, she was about nine years old and completely bed-ridden. But her unfortunate situation wouldn't persist.

In a miraculous turn of events, Rose claims to have seen Jesus Christ in a vision. She recounts a vivid memory of her vision where she saw a white hand touching her head wound, after which she heard a voice that said, “I am Jesus, I have healed you. Wake up and go serve me.”

Soon after this, she was permanently healed. She remembers running to her parents, telling them she was healed after three years of not being able to get out of bed. She also relays that she heard the same voice many times after her illness, and the voice urged her to serve Jesus.

Rose was baptized and converted to Christianity. At this time, she also took a sacred oath never to be married as she wanted to dedicate her life to Christ.

Career

What is Rose Muhando’s life history?

Rose started her career as a choir teacher for the Chimuli Anglican Church. However, things didn’t end well for her. There was some dispute between Rose and the church that eventually led to her leaving the choir. But this did not stop Rose from pursuing her passion for music.

Rose’s music debuted in the early 2000s. In 2004, her hit single “Uwe Macho” made headlines across Tanzania. In 2005, finally getting the recognition that she deserved, Rose won awards for “Best Composer”, “Best Singer”, and “Best Album of The Year” at the Tanzania Gospel Music Awards.

Later that year, Rose featured in a fund-raising concert for a Dar es Salaam orphanage. Rose continued to grow in the Gospel Music industry and finally signed a multi-million deal with Soni Music in February 2011, the first of its kind in the gospel music industry. This partnership between Rose and Sony Music was announced in Dar es Salaam at a press conference on the 9th of February.

Relationships

Who are Rose Muhando’s family members?

There isn’t much information available about Rose Muhando’s family. We do know that she is a mother of three. Rose Muhando’s children are all grown up. Rose Muhando’s daughter, Gift, is a law student. Her second-born, Nicholas, is studying finance, and her youngest son Milan is still in high school. Rose Muhando's children have three separate fathers who all left.

Rose Muhando doesn’t have a husband. The songstress has made it clear that she has no plans to walk down the aisle anytime soon. In a candid interview with a Tanzanian network, Muhando said that her job - which requires lots of travel - will not allow her to be on any man's side as much as she would like. By the sound of this, it doesn't seem like we will ever get to witness a Rose Muhando wedding.

Controversy

Soon after it was announced that Rose had signed a deal with Sony Music, things took a turn for the worse. The singer claimed that she was covered in negativity and that her enemies had cursed her.

In another incident, Rose Muhando had to fend off rumours about her death. She rubbished claims that she was beaten by a snake and was on the verge of death. She, however, admitted that she contracted a "strange illness" that made her legs swell.

Rose has also had her name besmirched as she was associated with sex, drugs, death threats and fraud. Read more about this here.

It was also rumoured that Rose had an abortion. She was harassed by the press and was trailed by the police for the same. Being a Christian gospel musician, Rose faced a lot of heat for her alleged abortion. Rose later came out and admitted that she had indeed aborted her baby. She would be having four children.

Having gone through so many hardships, Rose also threatened to abandon Christianity altogether. She stated that she had given her life to her music and her faith but had only received criticism and ill will in return and that she was quite tired of it. Not being able to take it anymore, the talented gospel artist finally left Tanzania and settled down in Kenya in 2017.

Perhaps the juiciest story of all is Rose’s alleged “exorcism.” A few years ago, an Instagram video clip of Rose being exorcised by a priest went viral. This video clip has since been removed. However, when the Tanzanian Music Foundation caught wind of this, they requested to have Rose sent back home to Tanzania to receive the necessary treatment. Rose refused to do so. She still lives in Kenya.

Later, Rose announced that she was fighting a spiritual battle, and she owes her victory to Pastor Ng’ang’a.
